Port Recognizes Longtime Tenant for 50 years of Service
June 28th was a special day at the port as we hosted a luncheon for Glen Dais, President of Heavy Lift Services, who is celebrating an incredible 50 years of dedication and service! Port Commissioner Blair Ciklin and Executive Director Michael Meekins presented Glen with an award in front of his wife Tina, his son Joe and his employees. Glen started his journey at the port working for his father's business and has risen to the role of President through hard work and commitment. Heavy Lift Services is the only family owned and operated business that has been around since the 1960's. His wife Tina is the Vice President, and his son Joe is the Operations Manager. Here's to Glen Dias- a true legend and an inspiration to us all. Thank you for 50 years of outstanding service! WATCH SHORT VIDEO STORY HERE

Executive Director Joins Riviera Beach Police Foundation Board of Directors
The Riviera Beach Police Foundation has appointed Port of Palm Beach Executive Director Michael Meekins to its Board of Directors. "I am honored to join the Board of Directors, allowing me to contribute to the nonprofit’s mission and objectives,” said Meekins. The Riviera Beach Police Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) dedicated to supporting the Riviera Beach Police Department, focuses on enhancing public safety through community partnerships, specialized training, and advanced technology initiatives. "Mr. Meekins has blessed our Foundation with his commitment to provide his time and talent to ensure through fundraising that the Riviera Beach Police Department will have the most advanced training, the latest equipment and up-to-date technology to protect the community in the most effective way,” said Billie Brooks, Riviera Beach Police Foundation President. Under Meekins' leadership, in April 2024, the Riviera Beach Police Department assigned a full-time Riviera Beach Police officer to the Port to oversee both landside and marine operations. "Joining this board allows me to apply my experiences and commitment to service in a meaningful way, ensuring my fellow board of directors and I uphold and strengthen public safety for all,” Meekins said.

Port Sponsors All About the Ocean Night
The Port of Palm Beach made waves at Roger Dean Stadium during the All About the Ocean Night, where the Jupiter Hammerheads faced off against the Clearwater Threshers. The June 22nd baseball game was aimed at celebrating marine conservation and education.
Attendees had the opportunity to learn about the Port of Palm Beach's efforts to relocate stony corals ahead of waterside construction projects. Public Information Officer Yaremi Farinas and Director of Planning Carl Baker were present at the event, engaging with the community and distributing Port swag to fans who visited their booth. Several port employees also attended to support the initiative.
In addition to the Port of Palm Beach's presence, the Florida Ports Council joined the event, focusing on educating children about the vital role of the shipping industry in bringing goods to their local grocery stores. "We are thrilled to have participated in All About the Ocean night at Roger Dean Stadium," said Executive Director Michael Meekins. "It was a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness about our coral relocation efforts and connect with the community in a fun and educational setting." Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium also partnered with 4Ocean that agreed to pull one pound of trash from our South Florida waters for every ticket sold and 100 pounds of trash for every run scored. |
Our summer interns had an inspiring meeting with Tropical Shipping President and CEO Tim Martin and other members of the team who shared their career journeys and responsibilities.
We're grateful to our port tenant for being a supporter of our internship program and for believing in youth development.
The interns also heard from special guest State Representative Jervonte Edmonds who founded the nonprofit Suits for Seniors.

Port Activity Day with Ozinga
On July 12th, summer intern Zachary Nisenbaum-Lamadore along with Ozinga Terminal Manager Arnoldo Lara, guided the summer interns on a tour of the Ozinga cement terminal. The interns learned that it takes the Ozinga team six days to unload a cement ship. Ozinga uses type I/II cement, which is normally used for residential houses, highways and sidewalks. Most of the cement stays in South Florida and the Treasure Coast regions. The interns were able to see how cement is moved from the underground 20-inch diameter pipe to the cement trucks. Below are some pictures from the tour!

Our Director of Planning and Development Carl Baker led a presentation and tour for the students who are part of the Palm Beach State College Talent Search Program. The students learned about the different career opportunities at the Port. They also heard from summer intern, Amber Macariola, who shared the process of applying for an internship and the projects she's completed thus far. Talent Search is a FREE program through the U.S. Department of Education for eligible middle and high school students at target schools in Palm Beach County. The goal of Talent Search is to increase the number of youths from disadvantaged backgrounds who complete high school and enroll in postsecondary education institutions of their choice. Participants receive the following services: academic support, financial literacy, college application assistance, SAT/ACT Prep, career exploration and assessments, and many more. Students are accepted into the Program based off the following eligibility criteria: low-income, potential first-generation college student, currently enrolled at one of our target schools, and a US citizen.
