[ARCHIVED] State representative presents Commissioners with copy of new Port charter

Commissioners and Representative Willhite

Port of Palm Beach Commissioners publicly thanked State Representative Matt Willhite for his assistance with changing the Port charter. Rep. Willhite attended the September Board Meeting where he presented the board with a copy of HB 915 signed by Governor Ron DeSantis. The bill, which Rep. Willhite sponsored, was signed into law on July 6, 2021. Rep. The new charter eliminated specific bond requirements for the board of commissioners and secretary-treasurer, allow for annual pay adjustments and install other technical changes.

"As I am sure you know, this was not the first year that we worked together to pass this local bill. And, like most pieces of legislation in Tallahassee, there were speed bumps along the way. Nonetheless, working alongside your team, we were actively able to ensure wide-ranging support for this legislation by explaining to the Legislature the unique and vital role the Port of Palm Beach has for Palm Beach County and the entire state of Florida," said Rep. Willhite.
