Manuel Almira celebrates 12 years as Port Executive Director For Manuel Almira, it seems like just yesterday he accepted the role as Port Executive Director.
"In the past 12 years, I, along with my staff, have managed to increase the Port of Palm Beach’s cumulative annual growth rate to 5.8 percent. I know 2020 has been a difficult and an unprecedented year, but I am optimistic we will snap back," said Almira, PPM.
Almira says it's been great to see the Port grow throughout the years. In the past 12 months, we have completed $13 million in capital projects, which includes the new three-acre refrigerated container yard and the renovation of our mega-yacht berth.
"The Port is currently looking into future upgrades and capital projects that will benefit the Port in years to come," Almira said.

Draft Restrictions The Palm Beach Harbor Pilots released a shoaling notice on June 19th detailing increased shoaling in the Lake Worth Inlet. According to the Pilots, inbound vessels are restricted to 30 feet at high water and 27 feet at low water slack. Oil products are restricted to 29 feet at high water and 26 feet at low water. Single screw tanker and bulk vessels are restricted to 585' LOA and 90 feet beam due to the loss of the north quarter with sand. Passenger vessels may need to divert or delay entry with any extreme weather or strong northerly winds.
All drafts are for saltwater. Vessels over 500 feet LOA, 85 feet beam and 27 feet draft may be restricted to daylight entry. Certain vessels over 26 feet draft should avoid the flood tide. One-way traffic is required for all vessels over 300 feet. Vessels over 550' LOA and 90' beam may have further draft restrictions.
All agents with vessels over 550 feet LOA, 85 feet beam, and 25 feet draft should keep in close contact with the Pilots concerning further restrictions.
Port Engineer Ronald Coddington says he's working on a solution.
"Port Executive Director Manuel Almira and I have been in contact with the U.S.Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District and the Florida Chief of Waterways Projects, Trisston Brown. Brown is working quickly to receive bids and issue an immediate contract for the dredging of the shoal area and removal of excess sand from the settling basin," Coddington said.

New refrigerated container yard Our new three-acre refrigerated container yard was recently completed and is now in use by Port tenant, Tropical Shipping. The newly developed container yard gives us another 350 spaces for refrigerated containers to plug into electrical outlets. The completion of this project allows us to meet the growing demand of food consumption in the Caribbean basin.
