The Navy's HSV 2 Swift came to
visit the Port in May 2005.
It was loading experimental
research equipment and cargo for use on a Caribbean
deployment.
The HSV2 Swift is currently
serving operationally as an interim Mine Warfare Command
and Support Ship (MCS) and Navy/Marine Corps
experimentation vessel. Swift will be used to
develop concepts, capabilities and reconfigurable mission
modules for multiple mission areas in support of Littoral
Combat Ship (LCS) program development.
The Swift has a crew of 37, is 321 feet long and
has an 88 ft beam. The Swift is not open to the
public while it is at the Port of Palm Beach. The area it
is berthed in is a restricted area and there are Law
Enforcement boats stationed in the water off of the Port
entrance.
