Berth 17 Debuts with Arrival of Duke of Topsail

Duke of Topsail at Berth 17

On Monday morning, November 26, 2018, the Port of Palm Beach celebrated the first use of Berth 17 by the Duke of Topsail in a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Attendees at the ceremony included the Chair of the Board of Commissioners, Dr. Jean L. Enright; Manuel Almira, Executive Director; and Glen and Tina Dias of Gulfstream Line and Heavy Lift Services. Gulfstream's cargo vessel, the Duke of Topsail, had just arrived at the Port from the Bahamas and was the very first ship to utilize the brand-new mini slip.

The Berth 17 Project includes the replacement of the existing 60-year-old sheet pile, improvements to the adjacent upland drainage system, utilities, and tenant loading and unloading facilities. A mini slip was cut into the existing dock, allowing for the stern-in mooring of a 350-foot vessel conducting ro/ro (roll-on, roll-off) operations. It expands current business and allows for new business at the site, without interrupting the sugar operation located on the south side of Slip 3.
